Camping, again!
July 25-26, 2009 – We had so much fun camping just two weeks ago, that we jumped at the opportunity to tag along with the Andersons and the Craigs for another weekend of camping. This time we ventured up to Chapman Campgrounds, 30 miles outside of Balsalt, CO (which is about 20 miles southeast of Glenwood Springs) – it was remote. We didn’t realize until we were well into the drive that it takes close to 4 hours to get there, which wouldn’t have been so bad except for the fact that we had only planned to go up for one night. It rained for much of the time we were there, but the kids all had a great time playing together no less. And it did clear up long enough for us to creep out from under the canopy and roast some marshmallows for s’mores (as even us amateur campers know: the success of your camping trip is determined by the tastiness of your s’more).
Upon heading home Sunday afternoon, we discovered that I-70 had been shut down due to a pretty messy tanker accident. Not wanting to take some long, unfamiliar way home that would have us on the road for several extra hours, we decided to get off the highway in Eagle. We (along with the Andersons and the Craigs) had dinner at a pizzeria and then we all wand up staying the night in a hotel. The kids were thrilled as this minor change of plans meant more time to play with their friends AND swimming at the hotel!
All in all, it was a great weekend spent with some of our favorite friends!
(I suppose I must have been trying to keep my camera out of the rain, because the only pictures I came away from the weekend with were all of the kids having fun blowing bubbles.)
