It’s Not Every Day...
September 9, 2009 – You just never know what you might see when you look out into the backyard. Today it was a hot air balloon...about to land RIGHT IN OUR YARD!
The girls and I were sitting at the dining room table eating breakfast when we notice Angus growing increasingly obnoxious in the backyard. It wasn’t until I heard what sounded like someone wielding a blow torch that I decided to have a look. Much to my surprise, I pulled back the shades to discover my entire view filled with the red, white and blue grandeur of the “Freedom” hot air balloon you see above. Aubri and I marveled at the sight while Rylynn ran back in the house and cowered. She later explained to me that she was afraid it was going to land on our house. The thing was massive when seen from such an unexpectedly short distance. I can only imagine what it must have looked like through Rylynn’s little eyes.
(On a side note, it just now occurs to me that I never stopped to consider what I might have done had I pulled back the shades to reveal someone actually wielding a blow torch...hmmm...)
They didn’t end up landing in our backyard (thy missed it by about 20 feet), but instead came to rest in the open field just beyond our fence. The folks piloting the craft seemed about as surprised as I was, leading me to suspect that they likely had not intended to wind up in our neighborhood.
